Yardstick is a golf GPS and stats app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It is built so that your information stays with you. This policy covers the app and this website. You can open it from the app at the foot of Settings.
What we collect
Nothing. Yardstick has no account and no sign-in. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking, and no third-party code. We, the developer, never receive your rounds, your location or anything else about you.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your rounds: scores, stats, the course and tees, and dates. They are stored only on your iPhone and are deleted when you delete a round or the app. They don’t contain your location.
- Your settings, such as the target circle’s width and what you choose to track.
Location
Yardstick uses your location while you use the app, and during a round while your phone is in your pocket. It uses it to find the course you’re on and to measure distances to the green and to your targets. Location is used on your device, and is never stored with your rounds or sent to us. You can turn location off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. You can still search for a course.
Apple Watch and Health
If you use the Apple Watch app, your round is saved to Apple Health as a golf workout. To do this, the watch asks permission to save workouts, and to read workouts, heart rate, active energy and walking distance for that workout. This data goes to your own Health app only. We never receive it, and it is never used for advertising or shared with anyone. You can change these permissions at any time in the Health app.
Maps and course data
The satellite photos of each hole, and the 3D views in Fly the hole, come from Apple Maps. To show them, your device asks Apple for map images of the course you’re looking at. The course list is built into the app. The outlines of greens and hazards download from Apple with the app and its updates, as part of the App Store install. None of these requests reach us. Apple’s handling of them is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Siri and the Lock Screen
When you ask Siri for the yardage, the answer is worked out on your iPhone. Siri’s handling of your request is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. The yardage shown on your Lock Screen stays on your device.
Sharing
When you choose to share a round, Yardstick makes a scorecard image and a short message and hands them to the share sheet. Where they go is up to you. Nothing is shared unless you tap Share.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other companies. Like any website, the company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site running.
Children
Yardstick does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date before the change ships in the app.
